In March 2008 I made the suprising discovery that I had a little artistic talent which had been lying dormant all my life. I started with simple still life subjects but as time went on I progressed to more complex subjects. The only medium I paint in is pastels which I love. They do tend to be messy but I love the immediacy of the work, involving no mixing with turps or water, just pure pigment directly applied and mixed right there on the paper. Carol Conrad

This is my latest picture which I have been working on for several days now. I found the foreground sand very difficult. It's from a photo taken on Hatteras in the early evening. (For British readers, Hatteras is a barrier island on the outer banks of North Carolina). I didn't take the photo myself, it's one of the ones presented on Wet Canvas as part of the May Challenge.
