In March 2008 I made the suprising discovery that I had a little artistic talent which had been lying dormant all my life. I started with simple still life subjects but as time went on I progressed to more complex subjects. The only medium I paint in is pastels which I love. They do tend to be messy but I love the immediacy of the work, involving no mixing with turps or water, just pure pigment directly applied and mixed right there on the paper. Carol Conrad

It's been quite a time since I posted anything here, due to visitors and other distractions, which included a visit to Fairfield Glade in Eastern Tennessee to check it out as a retirement destination. We loved it there and are working towards getting there within the next two years. One of the many appealing aspects for me was the fact that they have a thriving Art Guild which is run by the residents. They have monthly exhibits of work done by members which are held in the great facility they have there, which also includes studio space and has workshops and all sorts of interesting things going on. I'm very excited about it.
This piece is from a photo I took of the Sandhill Cranes that regularly strutted past the rear of our home when we lived in Florida, and I am going to enter it into the Annual 4th July Show here in Chelmsford this year.
