In March 2008 I made the suprising discovery that I had a little artistic talent which had been lying dormant all my life. I started with simple still life subjects but as time went on I progressed to more complex subjects. The only medium I paint in is pastels which I love. They do tend to be messy but I love the immediacy of the work, involving no mixing with turps or water, just pure pigment directly applied and mixed right there on the paper. Carol Conrad

I started a new picture today. It's a Cape Hatteras beach scene taken in the early evening with the sun just starting to decline. Not sure how I'm going to get on with the sand and the shadows created by the late-day sun, but I'll give it a go! It's one of the photos selected for the May Pastel Strokes on Wet Canvas. Two people have already done this one, I only hope I can do it half as well.
