Clinging to the Edge

This is from a photo that I took when we went for a short hike on top of Black Mountain, a short distance from where we live.  It's always amazing to me that vegetation can grow out of seemingly hostile environments.  The view from the top of Black Mountain is beautiful, though you do have to be a little choosy when picking your viewpoint to avoid the tree tops from below.

Garlic

I have been a little slow in posting paintings of late, it seems I paint them and it takes a couple of weeks (at least) for them to get photographed and posted in my blog.  I don't do a lot of still life pictures but now and then I feel the urge to give it a go, as was the case with this one.  It always seems that the photo's don't accurately reflect the painting.  But it's close.  This one is 11 x 14 on Richeson Pastel Board.

Sunrise at the Shore

I have been fascinated recently with painting waves.  I did a couple of small studies in my studio and then did this full scale one.  It was really fun to do and I plan to do more like this.
This one is 16 x 20 Pastel.

Penguin Party

This picture really captured my imagination....I looked at it and immediately thought they looked as if they were standing around chatting about life.  I painted it several weeks ago, but have been a little tardy getting it onto the blog.  It was really fun to do something like this for a change, I love landscapes but sometimes a change is good too.  It's pastel and 11"x 14".

It's currently hanging in the art gallery here in Fairfield Glade as part of the "Fur and Feathers" theme for the month of September.

Gifted to a friend who collects "penguin things".

Jasper, Alberta, Canada

How gorgeous is this spot!!!   Unfortunately I have never been there and the photo from which I painted this was taken by a friend, but I loved it and couldn't wait to get out my pastels and do my interpretation of the scene.  It's 16 x 20 Pastel.

Saturday, July 28, 2012

I just finished this one today.  It's a picture of Lavender fields in Provence.  It was fun to do...it's always fun working with bright colors.  The photo was not taken by me, but I loved it.  It's a pastel painting, size 16 x 20 on sanded pastel paper.

My latest work

I have not been too active on my blog of late, but I have been painting from time to time, and here are the most recent pictures I have been working on this week.  The top one I call "Standing Firm"  and the other is "Golden Fields"  Both are pastels on sanded pastel papers.  Our art society is looking for some pictures to hang in the local bank and I have been asked if I could supply a couple.....maybe these will find their way there.
