In March 2008 I made the suprising discovery that I had a little artistic talent which had been lying dormant all my life. I started with simple still life subjects but as time went on I progressed to more complex subjects. The only medium I paint in is pastels which I love. They do tend to be messy but I love the immediacy of the work, involving no mixing with turps or water, just pure pigment directly applied and mixed right there on the paper. Carol Conrad

Old Cellars Beach
I took this photo several years ago when walking on the cliffs with my sister and brother in law. Old Cellars Beach is in Noss Mayo, Devon at the entrance to the Yealm Estuary. This whole area is one of great natural beauty and I had already done a painting of it for my sister but felt I wanted to do it again in a larger format. This one is 16" x 20".

You certainly have a talent. It must be very relaxing and gives you great satisfaction. When you are in Devon again maybe you could go round the corner and paint The sunset going over the Mewstone at Wembury. I would be interested in purchasing one off you to remind me of the good times! You are right it is a shame that you discovered this talent for painting so late in life at the age of 65.
ReplyDeleteThank you. My sister lives in Wembury so I go there usually about once a year, but I know she has some lovely photographs of the sunset over the Mewstone which I'm sure she would allow me to use as a reference. Do you live here in the States or in the UK? Please e-mail me privately if you would like to know the cost and if you would like me to proceed.
